Wedjat eye amulets were among the most popular amulets of ancient Egypt. The wedjat eye represents the healed eye of the god Horus and embodies healing power as well as regeneration and protection in general.  This example is carved from basalt, a volcanic stone used by the ancient Egyptians since pre-Dynastic times.  Suspension loop at the top for attachment. 

Dimensions: Length 2.3 cm (0.94 inches)

Condition: Intact and in excellent condition overall.

Provenance: Private collection of Geoffrey Metz, Egyptologist, Gustavianum Museum, Uppsala University, Sweden. Metz catalogue number M1517, acquired from the London trade in the 1990s.
