This ancient coin was minted for Alexander the Great, one of the greatest conquerors of all time. The obverse depicts a portrait of Herakles (Roman Hercules), the extraordinary demigod and warrior hero of ancient Greek mythology from whom Alexander claimed descent, facing right, wearing the famed lion skin headdress. The reverse portrays the divine Zeus, king of the Gods on Mount Olympus and father of Herakles, seated on a throne facing left, one leg crossed behind the other, an eagle perched in his outstretched right hand, a long scepter in his left, and a torch below, ANAPOYAPOY (of Alexander) to the right, a monogram H to the left. The coin is set in an outstanding 18k gold round frame with a fabulous surround of 44 dazzling diamonds!
