Mixing the best of the new with the old, this contemporary ruby necklace was hand-made and drilled by Indian craftsmen with a bow drill, a method practiced since Mogul days. Carefully matched, they are highlighted by high karat Byzantine gold beads, two of openwork filigree design, and the central bead with a closed circular motif. All three are typical of Byzantine jewelry from the eighth and ninth centuries.
