The large buff-colored jar of squat melon form has a flat, wide-lipped rim and two lug handles on opposite shoulders, characteristically decorated with red-brown vertical bands filled with horizontal zigzag lines.
Created in the Pre-Dynastic "D-ware" style that dates to the height of the Naqada II period, vessels such as this were made by coiling lengths of marl clay, smoothing by hand, then applying the red ochre decoration before firing.
