Standing on a small round foot, a beautiful polychrome bowl with deeply flared walls, a Tuza/Piartial bowl decorated with triangles within circles on the inside base, and circle patterns around the inside rim of the bowl, the negative space painted a dark brown.

A good example of the Piartal stylistic complex, this bowl was painted using "resist painted" technique, rather than the more straightforward "positive painted" technique. Resist is a reverse technique in which a base slip (commonly cream) is applied, the vessel is fired, and then a type of "resist" material (that preserves the base slip even after it's painted over), is applied to create the motifs. Next, a darker slip is applied over the surface and reheated, staining the negative space but leaving the cream base layer untouched, creating designs out of the resist-coated cream. Lastly, red pigment may be applied over portions of the cream to highlight certain designs.

McCain Sr., a four-star Navy admiral, commanded forces in the Pacific during World War II; her husband, John S. McCain Jr., another four-star Navy admiral, led the U.S. invasion of the Dominican Republic in 1965 and commanded U.S. forces in the Pacific during the Vietnam War.  At the age 96, she displayed characteristic pluck when she took to the presidential campaign trail on behalf of her son, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
