Dieses hohe, schlanke Gefäß mit zylindrischer Form wurde im Spiralverfahren hergestellt und von Hand aus einem orange-rosa melierten Tonstoff gefertigt. Die feine, von Hand geglättete Oberfläche des Gefäßes weist eine umlaufende Rille auf, die Muscheln oder Kordeln imitiert, darunter eine breite Öffnung, die von einem kurzen, umgestülpten Rand umgeben ist.
Gefäße mit gewelltem Griff wie dieses Beispiel nehmen in der Geschichte der ägyptischen Archäologie einen besonderen Platz ein, denn aus seiner Untersuchung im späten 19. Jahrhundert begann Petrie, das Sequenzdatierungssystem zusammenzustellen, das die Grundlage für viele unserer Werke bildet Kenntnisse der vordynastischen Zeit.
