Of pale blue glazed faience, the pyramid form seal is inscribed on the underside with a serpent, and two signs spell the word for “eternity” and combined with the vertical sign to the right could be wd “command,” or combined with the serpent it could be dd mdw “utterance." When found on mummies, this amulet is sometimes, appropriately, on or at the fingers; otherwise it lies over the torso.  A seal amulet, by its very existence, guaranteed the survival of the deceased's name for all eternity.  This example is pierced horizontally for attachment.

Condition: The amulet is intact and in excellent condition overall.

Dimensions: Length: 1.3 cm (0.5 inches)

Provenance: Private Maryland collection of a diplomat, acquired while serving in Egypt between 1949 and 1956, and then by descent.
