




An exhibited Chimu-Inca Double Bird Effigy Vessel, Late Intermediate Period - Late Horizon, ca. 1100 - 1500 CE

A footed stirrup vessel featuring an effigy of conjoined two long-billed water birds, one bird preening the neck of the other while the second has its head turned backward over the body, both with wings held tight to their bodies and round eyes, and each end of the stirrup spout emerging from the birds' bodies. Like most Chimú ceramics, this piece was mold made and burnished after firing.
