This fine limestone fragment originally comes from an inscription consisting of vertical lines of text with vertical rules separating the lines. The best-preserved hieroglyph is that of a charming quail chick, beautifully carved in sunken relief, facing right with a small sharp beak, oval eye, streamlined wings, and highlighted in the extraordinary Egyptian blue. Above the quail chick is the bottom tip of a scepter or drill. Since it's centered, without any hieroglyphs to the left or right, it could be the scepter that hangs from the night sky and is used in words such as "night" and "darkness." To the right of the quail chick are the fronds of a sedge plant, so the text might read "... who opens it ..." or "... the darkness, while he ...".
