This small pretty pendant of high karat gold has been made by cutting out the form from sheet gold and punching the design using a mold. The gold becomes the backdrop for displaying precious stones, such as the cabochon garnet in this example. Garnets were much cherished in Viking times for their color and their amuletic powers for it was believed the blood-red stone improved their fighting prowess. The suspension loop connected above is composed of a tubular element mounted horizontally.

Condition: The pendant is intact and in excellent condition overall. It is re-strung as a necklace on a modern 18K yellow gold chain that can be adjusted up to 18 inches.

Dimensions: Height: 1/2 inch (1.27 cm). Strung on an adjustable 18-inch modern chain of 18K yellow gold.

Provenance: Private Virginia collection acquired from the London trade in early 2000's.
