Scarabs bearing wishes and blessings related to divinities whose protection individuals wished to summon are particularly popular during the late New Kingdom and the Third Intermediate Period. The hieroglyphs inscribed on the base of this example express a wish that the owner’s reputation endures and that s/he live on through her/his children: “May your name endure, and may children come into being for you.”

Condition: The scarab is intact and in excellent condition overall.

Dimensions: Length: 1.6 cm (0.63 inch)

Provenance: Private Maryland collection of a diplomat, acquired while serving in Egypt between 1949 and 1956, and then by descent.
