Pierced longitudinally for suspension, the scarab is finely carved from black steatite, the back incised with suture and pronotum lines and featuring an incised lotus, the legs naturalistically carved and lightly incised. Base inscribed with a striding lion, the head turned back, a uraeus at the front.

Condition: Some minor chips to the edge that do not detract, otherwise intact and in very good condition overall.

Dimensions: Length: 3/4 inch (1.9 cm)

Provenance: Private Maryland collection of a diplomat, acquired while serving in Egypt between 1949 and 1956, and then by descent.
