Bronze statuette of the god Nefertum, son of Ptah and Sekhmet. With them, he formed the Triad of Memphis. A nature god who represented "the heat of the rising sun", his function was to grant a continuance of life in the world to come. Here, he is portrayed as a man wearing a pleated kilt, a striped tripartite wig surmounted by a crown of a full-blown Lotus Flower, from the center of which rise four palm branches, while from each side hangs a "menet."
Dimensions: Height: 5 1/2 inches (14 cm)
Condition: Incomplete, arms and lower legs now missing, as is the menet on the right side of the crown, but still presents very well with excellent detailing. Custom mounted.
Provenance: Dr. Ulrich Muller private collection, Zurich, Switzerland, acquired between 1968 - 1978 and thereafter in a private Virginia collection.
