A beautiful pair of Roman-inspired garnet intaglio set in nineteenth century 18 karat gold earrings. The intaglio, one of a helmeted Athena, goddess of war and wisdom, with her spear and shield, accompanied by a snake, the other of Apollo, god of arts, healing, and prophecy, with his bow and arrow strung, a shield by his feet. The intaglio are set in gold bezels with granulation clusters at the bottom, attached to teardrop garnets set in gold with hinges at the top.
