Die schlanke, sich verjüngende Form weist einen hohen, breiten Schaft mit einem gerippten Kapitell auf, das von vier kurzen horizontalen Balken gekrönt und an der Rückseite zur Befestigung durchbohrt ist. Der Djed-Pfeiler war eng mit Osiris verbunden, und seine Form wurde als Darstellung seines Rückgrats interpretiert, was Stabilität und Ausdauer suggerierte. Diese Eigenschaften wurden dem Verstorbenen verliehen, indem die Pfeiler in die Mumienumhüllungen gelegt wurden.
