Die ersten überlieferten Glasgefäße in Ägypten stammen aus der Regierungszeit von Thutmosis I. (1506–1493 v. Chr.) während des Neuen Reiches. Zu dieser Zeit war Glas hoch geschätzt und galt als gleichwertig mit anderen kostbaren Materialien und Edelsteinen.
Dieser exquisite Anhänger ist aus leuchtend türkisfarbenem Glas gefertigt und weist einen hohlen sphärischen Körper, einen ausgestellten oberen Teil, einen gewellten Rand und eine Aufhängeschlaufe auf. Die Ägypter verwendeten Kupfer, um diese Farbe zu erzielen, zweifellos um echten Türkis zu imitieren. Der Anhänger ist wie ein Granatapfel geformt, eine Frucht, die zu Beginn des Neuen Reiches aus Westasien nach Ägypten gebracht wurde. Der Granatapfel wurde schnell zu einem beliebten Motiv in Schmuck, Amuletten und Gefäßen.

Provenienz: Ex-Sammlung Filk, UK, in den 1950er Jahren zusammengetragen, danach Sammlung J.B., UK, 2011 aus dem englischen Handel erworben.
