Die dünne elliptische Spiegelscheibe ist nach dem Polieren zu einer glänzenden, reflektierenden Oberfläche mit einem kurzen Erl verbunden, das in einen Griff eingeführt worden wäre. Der hier gezeigte moderne Holzgriff ist den in der Antike verwendeten Griffen nachempfunden.
Die Spiegelscheibe spiegelte das Bild einer Person wider und wurde mit Vitalität, Generation und Regeneration in Verbindung gebracht. Darüber hinaus spiegeln die elliptische Form und die Lichtabgabeeigenschaften die der Sonnenscheibe und in geringerem Maße auch die des Mondes wider.

Zustand: Mit ein paar kleineren Verlusten an den Kanten, einer kleinen Delle in der Oberseite und kleinen Korrosionsstellen, insgesamt intakt und in gutem Zustand. Der Holzgriff ist eine maßgefertigte Halterung in Museumsqualität.
Provenienz: Privatsammlung Orange County, Kalifornien, erworben in den 1970er Jahren.
