This exceptional gold medallion is crafted from 24K sheet gold and meticulously hammered in the repoussé technique to depict a frontal female head, likely representing Aphrodite, portrayed in a so-called "barbaric" style. Her broad, simplified features are surrounded by hair arranged beneath a Phrygian cap, with a dotted beaded border framing her face.
Below the chin, four small triangular granulated pendants hang, creating the appearance of a jeweled necklace or pectoral. Flanking the head are two circular cabochon garnet inlays, each set within beaded collets. Their deep red hues bring vibrancy to the surface. Below, a teardrop-shaped garnet (or perhaps glass) inlay is situated between two raised hemispheres, which may symbolize breasts or attributes of fertility.
The outer edge of the disc is surrounded by a continuous granulated border, which unifies the overall composition. The reverse side of the pendant is simple, featuring only a long vertical suspension fitting. Recently, a loop made of high-karat gold was added to the top, allowing the pendant to be strung on a modern chain of 23–24K gold. This addition enhances the pendant's presentation while honoring its ancient design.
