Set with a finely carved, dark red garnet intaglio, the oval bezel is engraved with a male profile facing left, wearing a laurel wreath. The carving is delicate and well-proportioned, with careful attention to the facial features and the crisp rendering of the wreath, a motif associated with honor and achievement in the Roman world.

The intaglio is mounted in a high-karat gold ring, the rounded bezel neatly framing the stone and enhancing its depth of color. Rings of this type functioned both as personal adornment and as signets, serving as markers of identity and status.

Medium: Garnet, gold (20-22K)

Dimensions: US ring size 6 (UK=L 1/2, DE=17, CH=11, FR=51.9, EU=51.9, JP=11)

Condition: The intaglio is in excellent condition. There is some light denting to the antique gold bezel, but has been professionally stabilized and is in good condition for wear.

Provenance:   Private Virginia collection, previously in a private English collection, acquired in the 1980s and by descent.
