Der Bolti-Fisch versteckt seine Eier und sogar seine geschlüpften Jungen in seinem Maul und war daher für die Ägypter ein besonderes Symbol für neues Leben. Seine Symbolik war so stark, dass im Grab eines ramessiden Arbeiters in Deir el-Medina der Verstorbene als riesiger Bolti dargestellt wird, der auf einer löwenförmigen Bahre liegt und von Anubis begleitet wird. Während des Neuen Reiches wurde der Rücken von Skarabäusen oft in Form eines Bolti geschnitzt; Der Fisch war auch ein beliebtes Motiv für die Unterseite zeitgenössischer Skarabäen, meist in Verbindung mit anderen Symbolen der Erneuerung. Dieses Exemplar mit flacher Rückseite wurde aus blau glasierter Fayence geformt.
