Ein Neuanfang in der sumerischen Glyptik erfolgte in der Frühdynastie II, wobei die herkömmlich als „Wettbewerbsszene“ bezeichnete Darstellung zum gebräuchlichsten Design wurde. Tatsächlich zeigt es, dass die größeren domestizierten Tiere von göttlichen Wesen vor Angriffen von Löwen und anderen Plünderern geschützt werden; eine Form sympathischer Magie, weil die Menschen hofften, dass Tempelherden im wirklichen Leben, wo nötig, durch göttliches Eingreifen gerettet würden. In dieser Zeit begannen auch Inschriften mit Namen der Siegelbesitzer.
Dieses große Siegel aus weißem Marmor ist ein hervorragendes Beispiel für diesen Stil mit den typischen runden Körpern und stark stilisierten Köpfen. Die geschäftige Szene zeigt ein Rind, das von einem Löwen angegriffen wird, darüber ein Rind, dem ein Held hilft, der die Hinterbeine einer Gazelle ergreift, eine männliche Figur, die ein Tier opfert, und einen Skorpion auf dem Feld.

For overseas shipments we charge a small flat rate which includes packing, preparation of all customs paperwork, insurance and carrier fees in compliance with all USA and International customs requirements. Overseas shipments are sent using either USPS Priority Mail or FedEx but contact us if you have a shipping preference. International customers are responsible for all duties and taxes.
