Ein kleines blaues Fayence-Amulett des vollständigen männlichen Organs, mit einer Schlaufe oben zum Aufhängen oder Befestigen. Als Fruchtbarkeits- und Glücksbringer sowie als ultimative Schutzquelle wurden phallische Embleme auf einer Vielzahl römischer Objekte gefunden, von Amuletten über Fresken und Mosaike bis hin zu Lampen. Wie der antike Autor Plinius bezeugt, trugen sogar Babys und Soldaten solche Amulette, um göttlichen Schutz zu inspirieren.

Provenienz: Sammlung Philip Mitry, mit originalem Mitry-Sammlungsetikett, #7896.918. Mitry betrieb ab den frühen 1920er Jahren den Anglo-American Bookshop (gegr. 1869) in Kairo, Ägypten, und handelte auch mit Antiquitäten aus dem Geschäft mit einer offiziellen Lizenz (#90), bis er in den 1960er Jahren nach Kalifornien ging, danach eine Privatsammlung in Hollis, Queens, NY, dann durch Erbschaft.

For overseas shipments we charge a small flat rate which includes packing, preparation of all customs paperwork, insurance and carrier fees in compliance with all USA and International customs requirements. Overseas shipments are sent using either USPS Priority Mail or FedEx but contact us if you have a shipping preference. International customers are responsible for all duties and taxes.
