Dieser feine Silbermuschelanhänger wurde vom Metropolitan Museum of Art als Teil der Schmuckkollektion zur Erinnerung an die Tutanchamun-Ausstellung von 1976 herausgegeben. Er wird hier an einer modernen, 45 cm langen Silberkette angeboten.
Der ursprüngliche Anhänger in Form einer Muschelschale gehörte Königin Mereret aus der XII. Dynastie. Die Muschel wurde aus einer Goldscheibe gehämmert, und ein Aufhängering wurde an der Spitze der hohlen Rückseite angelötet. Perlmuttmuscheln, zugeschnitten und oft mit dem Namen des Königs beschriftet, wurden in Ägypten während des Mittleren Reiches häufig getragen.
Zu Ehren der Ausstellung „Treasures of Tutankhamun“, die zwischen 1976 und 1979 durch sieben amerikanische Städte tourte, gab das Metropolitan Museum of Art 100 Stücke Gedenkschmuck in Auftrag, die aus Tutanchamuns Grab nachgebildet wurden. Das Met schickte acht Mitarbeiter in das Ägyptische Museum in Kairo, um Replikate direkt von den Artefakten abzugießen. Dieser Anhänger wurde aus einer Form hergestellt, die direkt vom Original aus der Sammlung des Ägyptischen Museums, Kairo, Ägypten, abgenommen wurde.
