Das Buch der Toten ist die moderne Bezeichnung für eine Sammlung von etwa zweihundert altägyptischen Leichentexten, die aus Zaubersprüchen oder Zauberformeln bestehen und in Gräbern platziert wurden und angeblich die Verstorbenen im Jenseits schützen und ihnen helfen sollen. Viele Exemplare des Buches wurden in ägyptischen Gräbern gefunden, aber keines enthält alle etwa 200 bekannten Kapitel. 1842 vergab Richard Lepsius in seiner Ausgabe des Papyrus von Iufankh (Ägyptisches Museum Turin) die Nummern 1-165. Weitere Zahlen wurden später von anderen Gelehrten hinzugefügt. Die Grabtexte sind wie in diesem Beispiel in Hieroglyphen oder in hieratischen (kursiven Hieroglyphen) geschrieben.
