Popcorn (Quersu) war ein Lieblingsessen des Moche-Volkes. Wenn es über Hitze gehalten wird, verwandelt sich das Wasser in den Maiskörnern in Dampf und dringt durch die äußere Schicht. Das Moche-Volk entwickelte einen speziellen Gefäßtyp namens „Maispopper“, um die Körner über einer offenen Flamme zu halten. Der lange, separat angebrachte Griff ermöglichte es ihnen, den Topf zu halten, ohne sich zu verbrennen, und die kleine runde Öffnung sollte verhindern, dass der gepoppte Mais herausläuft. Die Keramikform wurde von früheren Prototypen aus Kürbissen abgeleitet.
