A complete Egyptian Funerary Cone for the King's Son of Kush, Merymose, 18th dynasty, ca. 1390-1352 BCE
This object qualifies for free USA shipping and a flat rate fee of $75 if shipping internationally.
Of conical form, the oval face with finely impressed text in raised relief that reads: "The venerated one in the presence of Osiris, the king's son of Kush Merymose."
One of the longest-serving Viceroys of Kush, Merymose held his position for over thirty years during the reign of Amenhotep III. He led the troops during the only military campaign of Amenhotep’s reign, when a troublesome alliance of Bedouin tribes rebelled in the region of Ibhet. Merymose governed the south from his capital at Mi’am, which is modern-day Aniba. Likely because of his close ties to the king, he was granted a tomb at Thebes. He was also given three magnificent sarcophagi, carved from diorite and decorated with ritual scenes and inscriptions; such honors were highly unusual for a non-royal official, regardless of his rank. He has been called a son of Amenhotep III, but this may be a misinterpretation of the title ‘King's Son of Kush.’
