A Large Viking Bronze Torque, Viking Period, ca. 8th Century CE

A notable example of Viking craftsmanship, this large bronze torque showcases the characteristic twisted rope design that is synonymous with Viking jewelry. The smooth, slightly curved form tapers at the ends, with each end featuring a loop that would have been used to fasten the piece around the neck or secured to other elements. The patina displays rich green and bronze tones, consistent with the age of the piece and indicative of its exposure to centuries of wear and handling. 

This style of torque is emblematic of the Viking era and was worn as a status symbol, reflecting both the wearer’s wealth and their connection to Norse traditions. The torque's design is simple yet striking, combining functionality with the highly developed metalworking techniques of the period.

Condition: The piece is in very good condition overall, with surface wear consistent with age, including slight abrasions and natural corrosion. No significant breaks or restorations are evident, and the integrity of the torque is intact. A fine example.
