the slightly convex front face with broad rectangular lugs at the back, horizontally pierced; sign hieroglyph incised on the back. Originally part of a set of two; reportedly from the Step Pyramid complex at Saqqara. These faience tiles were designed to imitate the appearance of colored reed matting that once adorned the palace of the pharaoh. It is likely that this tile originated from the southern tomb complex associated with Djoser’s Step Pyramid.
