This exquisite vessel showcases a stunning double-chambered design and the incised hooked beak and large, round eyes suggest this bird is a majestic macaw. Its simple yet elegant form is adorned with a beautiful creamy white slip, meticulously burnished to a lustrous finish that has stood the test of time. Salinar ceramics are revered for their straightforward depictions of humans, animals, and birds, exuding a sense of immediacy and directness. The double chamber also serves as a functional whistling vessel, producing a melodic sound as liquid flows from one side to the other.

Condition: Shallow base rim chip, and a few restored base rim chips, some resurfacing to the upper portion of the spout, and scattered mineral deposits, that do not detract. Otherwise, the vessel is intact and in excellent condition overall. A lovely, elegant example.
Provenance: Paul Shepard, Tucson, acquired from either Dr. Ernest Lira, Houston and Denver, or Dr. Peter Almendariz, Denver, or M. Brenner, Geneva, thereafter private east coast collection, acquired November 23, 1988 from Economos Works of Art, Santa Fe, NM.
