A leopard's head pendant of wood overlaid with gold and inlaid with quartz and colored glass was found among Tutankhamun's treasures. This commemorative reproduction was created by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and offered in three mediums: sterling silver with 24K gold electroplate with inlays of lapis lazuli enamel, 24K gold electroplate, and sterling silver with brass inlays, as seen here as the centerpiece of this wonderful statement necklace.

The cartouche on the leopard's forehead contains Tutankhamun's throne name, Nebkheperura. It is spelled with three hieroglyphs: a basket (neb), a beetle with plural strokes (kheperu), and the sun disk (ra). The pendant has been set as a necklace with modern strung bright blue turquoise ball beads, two silver melon beads, and two small silver spacer beads. In honor of the Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibition that traveled to seven American cities between 1976 and 1979, the Metropolitan Museum of Art commissioned 100 pieces of commemorative jewelry duplicated from King Tut's tomb. The Met sent eight staff members to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo to cast replicas directly from the artifacts, making these pieces the most accurate reproductions ever created.

Medium: Silver, brass, turquoise

Dimensions:   Pendant length: 2 inches (5.08 cm).  Necklace length: 17 inches (43.18 cm)

Condition: The necklace is intact and in excellent condition overall.
