A finely executed redware jug featuring a globular body and a long, upward-projecting beaked spout, characteristic of Cypriot utilitarian and ceremonial vessels. The handle rises from the shoulder to just below the neck, forming a graceful curve. The body is decorated with incised zig-zag patterns and pierced lug-like nodules, adding texture and dimension to the vessel’s surface. The warm, polished red slip is lightly mottled from age, with mineral accretions and light surface wear.

Medium: Clay

Dimensions: Height: 12 1/2 inches (31.75 cm), Width: 7 inches (17.8 cm)

Condition:  A few chips and surface wear, overall in very good condition.  A large and impressive piece.

Provenance: From the private collection of diplomat Norman M. Bouton (1933–2018), acquired in Cyprus between June 1969 and June 1972, during his service under Deputy Chief of Mission William R. Crawford.
