An Egyptian Inscribed Funerary Cone of Amenhotep (Huy), Son of Hepu, New Kingdom, ca 1550 - 1069 BCE
This object qualifies for free USA shipping and a flat rate fee of $75 if shipping internationally.
Molded funerary cone of Nile clay with a conical body and an oval sealing face bearing a raised hieroglyphic inscription arranged in five vertical columns. The inscription identifies the owner as Amenhotep, called Huy, bearing the title "Hereditary Prince," and names him as the son of the dignitary Hepu. The inscription reads:
"The venerated one in the presence of Osiris, the hereditary prince Amenhotep, called Huy, praised in the whole of Egypt, son of the dignitary Hepu."
Funerary cones were architectural elements embedded into the mudbrick façade above the entrances of elite Theban tomb chapels, with only the inscribed face remaining visible. Numerous cones bearing this inscription have been recorded from the vicinity of Medinet Habu on the west bank of Thebes. Although Tomb -396- has traditionally been suggested as the burial place of Amenhotep (Huy), the attribution remains unconfirmed.
