The Egyptian term for red jasper, khenmet (“delight”), reflects the stone’s association with vitality, energy, and life force, and its status as the red stone par excellence in ancient Egyptian material culture.
This cowrie-shaped bezel is carved from vivid red jasper and polished to a high gloss. The stone is secured within a high-karat gold setting formed from a narrow strip of gold wrapped around the sides and folded over the edges of the bezel base, leaving the underside visible. This method of construction is consistent with ancient goldsmithing techniques.
The bezel has been subsequently adapted for modern wear and is now mounted as a pendant on an 18K yellow gold chain.
