This Apulian Xenonware miniature olpe is a finely crafted piece from the 4th century BCE, showcasing the distinctive black-figure technique of Southern Italian pottery. The small jug features elegant spiral motifs and bold linear decorations in a reddish-brown pigment against a black-painted background, a signature of Xenonware pottery from the Apulian region.

The form of the olpe is typical of the period, with a gently flared neck, an elegant spout, and a single, robust handle. The spirals and linear patterns adorning the vessel are characteristic of the decorated style of this class of pottery, which often served as both functional and decorative objects in the daily life of the ancient Greek colonies of the Italian peninsula.

This miniature vessel reflects the skilled craftsmanship of Apulian artisans and serves as an excellent example of the artistic traditions that influenced Greek colonists in Italy during the Classical period. Its compact size and intricate detailing make it a desirable collector’s item for those interested in the aesthetics of ancient Greek pottery.
