This exquisite pendant is fashioned from an ancient Moche earflare, reimagined as a striking piece of wearable art. The gold framework forms an openwork star motif encircling a central disk of vibrant turquoise-blue chrysocolla. Ten small gold cups accent the perimeter, creating a rhythmic balance of form and color characteristic of northern Peruvian metalwork of the period.

The Moche and their Sicán successors were masters of goldsmithing, and such openwork compositions highlight their sophisticated understanding of geometry and ornament. The present example retains the precision of its original ceremonial design while embodying timeless elegance in its modern necklace setting.

Medium:  Chrysocolla, gold

Dimensions:  Diameter: 1 inch (2.5 cm). Strung on an 18K gold chain of 18 inches.

Condition:  The chrysocolla disk has been professionally repaired from two original fragments and is now fully stable; otherwise complete and in very good condition overall.  A lovely example.

Provenance:  Dr. Marcel Ebnöther (1920–2008) private collection, Switzerland, thereafter private collection of a NYC. physician, acquired in 1998.
