This object qualifies for free USA shipping and a flat rate fee of $75 if shipping internationally.
An elegant pair of ancient Near Eastern lapis lazuli beads, each carved into a compact, faceted biconical form and displaying the rich, deep blue coloration characteristic of this prized gemstone. The beads retain traces of natural golden pyrite inclusions, providing a striking contrast to the intense blue stone. Originally fashioned as elements of personal adornment, the ancient beads have been mounted as contemporary earrings, suspended from diamond-set 14K white gold hoops.
Lapis lazuli was among the most highly valued gemstones of the ancient Near East, prized for its brilliant blue color and association with wealth, royalty, and divine power. Obtained primarily from the mines of Badakhshan in present-day Afghanistan, the stone was transported over extensive trade networks to Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the eastern Mediterranean from as early as the fourth millennium BCE. Its appearance in royal burials, temple offerings, and elaborate jewelry attests to its enduring prestige.
