With its subtle graduating matrix from light to fiery reddish-orange, this carnelian bead is just superb! It was considered one of the six most prized semi-precious stones by the ancient Egyptians. Carnelian is endowed with the magical properties of power, courage, healing, and protection, carnelian is passionate but soothing, fiery and protective, mystical and metaphorical making it particularly soothing to wear. The bead has been set in a pretty 14K four-leaf mounting and strung on a 14K gold chain.

Medium: Carnelian

Dimensions: Bead diameter: 1.2 cm (0.47 inch). Strung on an 18-inch 14K gold chain with a 14K gold bail.

Condition:  The bead is intact and in excellent condition overall.

Provenance:  Miss Isobel H. Lenman private collection, certified by the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. and loaned to the museum by Joseph M. Hausler, Washington, D.C., acquired by Dr. and Mrs Stohlman in 1965 and thereafter by descent.
