This finely preserved globular pitcher features a pinched spout and a single strap handle. Its surface is decorated with dark brown and red slip over a light buff clay body, showcasing the bichrome technique typical of early Iron Age Cypriot ceramics. The central motif depicts a large bird with a long neck, a prominent eye, and a splayed wing, its body painted in a rich red. Surrounding the bird are concentric circles, stylized sunbursts, and a swastika—an important solar or cosmic symbol frequently used in early Mediterranean art. Additional designs include a dotted eye on the spout and a ladder pattern on the handle, which further enhance the vessel's visual and symbolic appeal.

The iconographic program on this pitcher reflects core themes of early Cypriot material culture. The bird, likely a waterfowl, may symbolize fertility, divine intercession, or protection and is rendered in a style typical of the Cypro-Geometric period. The adjacent swastika, unrelated to its later political meanings, represents cyclical time or solar energy. Concentric circles, often interpreted as solar disks or protective “eyes”, appear alongside stylized rosettes and the dotted-eye motif at the spout, all pointing to apotropaic intent. The ladder design on the handle may suggest connections between the earthly and celestial realms, drawing on architectural, textile, or symbolic motifs. Together, these motifs suggest a ritual or votive significance, possibly related to household protection or domestic worship.
