A small free-blown glass bottle of elongated ovoid form, tapering to a rounded base and rising to a short cylindrical neck with a slightly flared rim. The vessel is formed in a rich deep cobalt blue glass, a color particularly prized in Roman glass production and achieved through the addition of metallic oxides. The surface shows areas of light weathering and iridescence, consistent with long burial.
Unguentaria of this type were used throughout the Roman world to hold perfumed oils, cosmetics, and medicinal substances. Such vessels were common in both domestic contexts and funerary assemblages, reflecting the importance of scent, grooming, and ritual purification in Roman daily life. Blue glass examples, while not uncommon, are notably more desirable than pale green or aqua forms due to the cost and technical control required to produce the color.
