The stylized figure of a woman shown in the round, with bulbous head tilted backward, small breasts and protruding belly button, she is kneeling in the act of birthing, the head of the child between her legs.   

Dimensions: height: 8 1/4 inches (21 cm)

Condition:  Expected surface weathering, the figure is intact and in very good condition overall.

Provenance:   Forming part of the James Stephan Snr. collection, assembled in the late 1960's and then by descent.  Dr. Stephan was an archaeologist excavating in the Anatolian region of Turkey and during this time he assembled his collection from dealers and villagers throughout the Near East.
