This fragment preserves the figure of a seated priestly attendant carved in gray schist, a stone widely used in the sculpture of ancient Gandhara. The figure sits in a relaxed pose, with one knee raised and the body slightly turned to the side. His head tilts gently downward, conveying attentiveness within a larger narrative scene. The attendant wears a draped robe with carefully incised folds and a beaded necklace across the chest. His hair is arranged in an elaborate coiffure adorned with a rosette ornament. In his raised right hand he originally held an object, now lost, likely a ritual implement or offering associated with the ceremonial setting of the relief.

Reliefs such as this once decorated the architectural programs of Buddhist monasteries and stupas throughout the Gandharan region. They formed part of larger narrative compositions illustrating events from the life of the Buddha or scenes of devotion and courtly attendance. The sculpture reflects the distinctive Gandharan style, which combines South Asian religious imagery with artistic traditions influenced by the Hellenistic world. This synthesis can be seen in the naturalistic modeling of the face, the fluid treatment of the drapery, and the composed yet lifelike posture of the figure.
