This charming miniature limestone naos, or sacred shrine, is a small-scale representation of the temple sanctuaries that housed divine cult images in ancient Egypt. The shrine stands upon a projecting base and is crowned by a cavetto cornice decorated with a row of sacred uraei, the rearing cobras that symbolized divine authority and protection. Within a recessed niche on the front, a well-carved female head, likely representing a goddess, is enshrined.
Miniature shrines such as this served as votive offerings dedicated in temples or sacred precincts by individuals seeking divine favor, protection, or commemoration. Their architectural form mirrors that of larger stone naoi found in Egyptian temples, creating a symbolic dwelling place for the deity on a more intimate scale. The combination of the protective uraei and the sacred figure housed within the niche emphasizes the shrine's religious function and its connection to temple worship.
