A Byzantine Gold Cross Pendant, ca. 5th century CE

This small cross pendant is formed from high-karat sheet gold with slightly flaring arms and a granule cluster decorating each arm. The surface is largely plain, centered by a round glass inlay set within a simple bezel. The suspension loop is integral and wrapped, attaching the pendant to a modern chain.
Medium: Gold, glass
Dimensions: Pendant length: 3/4 inch (1.9 cm). Strung on an 18K yellow gold chain, adjustable up to 18 inches.
Condition: Light crushing and denting throughout, but intact. Modern-strung on an 18K yellow gold chain.
Provenance: Henry Anavian collection acquired in the 1980s, thence by descent to family.
