The scarab, as a hieroglyph (hpr) means to “come into being” and as a symbol, represents the regeneration of the sun god every morning, the ultimate symbol of new life and hope. The scarab beetle protects the hearts of the deceased, shielding their very soul in the halls of justice.

This scaraboid is similar in shape to the scarab amulet but lacks the details of the beetle’s anatomy. Of fine green feldspar, one of the six stones considered most precious by the Egyptians, it is symbolic of new life and serves as a portable means of well being and protection. Set as a modern 14K yellow gold pendant that features a .04-ct. round white diamond (I1 clarity/G, H color; .04CTW) and 18-inch adjustable chain of 18K yellow gold.

Medium: Feldspar

Dimensions: Length: 1 cm (0.39 inches),

Condition: Minor chip to the left base of the scaraboid that does not detract, otherwise intact and in very good condition overall. A rare example.

Provenance: John Winnie private collection, acquired in the 1990s.
