Each pendant is formed as a hollow miniature pomegranate with a globular body and flaring calyx. The fruits are hollow and fabricated from thin sheet gold, worked to achieve a rounded, slightly irregular surface characteristic of hand-formed Hellenistic jewelry. The pendants are suspended from modern 14K gold lever-back mounts, allowing them to be worn as earrings. The pomegranate was a significant symbol in the Greek world, associated with fertility, abundance, and the cycle of life and death through its connection to the myth of Persephone. Gold pomegranate pendants appear in Hellenistic jewelry assemblages and funerary contexts, reflecting both decorative appeal and symbolic meaning. The refined scale and careful fabrication of this pair are characteristic of Hellenistic goldwork, which favored delicate forms rendered in high karat gold.

Medium: High karat gold (ancient elements); modern 14K gold mounts

Dimensions: Length: 7/16 inch (1.2 cm)

Condition: Minor surface dents and a small stable seam separation to the body consistent with age and ancient wear; otherwise intact and in very good condition overall. Ancient elements well preserved. Modern mounts are new and unworn.

Provenance: Private English collection; acquired from Audrey Davis, Astarte Gallery, Britannia Hotel, London, ca. 1995.
