Cette amulette appui-tête en pierre fine était essentiellement destinée à relever magiquement la tête du défunt en résurrection, tout comme le dieu soleil s'élevait chaque matin au-dessus de l'horizon oriental. Cependant, le chapitre 166 du Livre des Morts révèle en outre que cela empêcherait également que la tête du défunt soit coupée, un sort très redouté contre lequel le chapitre 43 était spécifiquement dirigé.
