A very elegant necklace comprised of alternating marbled lapis lazuli lotus beads and small gold plated spacers, with a vintage gold plate pendant featured in the center, originally created to commemorate the US tour of the art from King Tutankhamun's tomb. The original pendant was found inside a gilded chest in the king's treasury. Tutankhamun stands in the center and is wearing the Atef crown, a corselet over his shoulders, a pointed kilt with an apron, and an animal's tail suspended from the back of the apron. Two gods, Ra-Harakhty and Atum, stand on each side of Tutankhamun, holding his hands. The falcon-headed Ra-Harakhty extends the sign of life, an ankh, to the king. Although the inscriptions do not identify the scene, it may represent a stage in the coronation ceremony in which Atum crowns the king and Ra-Harakhty gives him eternal life.
In honor of the Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibition that traveled to seven American cities between 1976 and 1979, the Metropolitan Museum of Art commissioned 100 pieces of commemorative jewelry duplicated from King Tut's tomb. The Met sent eight staff members to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo to cast replicas directly from the artifacts. This pendant was made from a mold taken directly from the original in the collection of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Egypt making it the most accurate reproduction ever created.
