A papyrus scepter was often carried by goddesses and the plant was the emblem of Lower Egypt and its patroness Wadjyt; hence its amuletic form not only guaranteed the wearer rejuvenation, but it also linked him with the divine and in particular one of the great protective goddesses. This lovely example has been set with an ancient carnelian bead and strung as a necklace using a modern adjustable 18" chain of 18K yellow gold.

Condition: the pendant is intact and in excellent condition overall. It has been restrung as a pendant on an adjustable 18" modern chain of 18K yellow gold. Just lovely!

Dimensions: Height: 7/8 inches (2.2 cm). Strung on an adjustable 18" modern chain of 18K yellow gold.

Provenance: Private Collection (A.A.), United States, acquired from the NYC art market, thereafter property from the collection of JRM, Washington, D.C.
