

An Egyptian Green Faience Djed Pillar Amulet, Late Period, ca. 664 - 332 BCE

The slender tapering form featuring a tall broad shaft with a ribbed capital surmounted by four short horizontal bars, pierced at the back for attachment. The djed-pillar was closely linked to Osiris, and its shape was interpreted as representing his backbone, suggesting stability and endurance. Conferring these qualities on the deceased, they were placed within the mummy wrappings.
