A finely-cast limestone plaster model left leg, with a realistic knee, nicely formed calf, and toes that have been stylized to depict jackal heads with long pointed ears. 

A carved leg like this example may have served as a model for a larger sculpture or to teach apprentice sculptors how to replicate a master style.

Medium:  Limestone

Dimensions:  Height: 9 1/2 inches  (23.5 cm)

Condition:  Repaired from three original pieces with restoration over the break lines. Losses to the edges of the toes.  A rare example. Mounted on a custom base.

Provenance:  Private NYC collection, ex. Dr. Sid Port collection, CA., 1980s.
